2. Total Costs: Cost is between $2,460 and $5,460, depending on if sponsoring company has an in-house attorney or not. Following is the details of these costs for the sponsoring company:

1. Sponsoring company does not have to prove that it has attempted to recruit U.S. citizens through advertising before the H1B petition can be approved, unless more than 15% of its employees are H1-B non-immigrant workers <https://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/FactSheet62/whdfs62O.pdf>.
2. The employee’s salary must be close to that of other companies’ in the region with the similar job. After a thorough research I found that this salary should be around $78,000 in NC for the kind of job a risk modeler does.

3. There are 20,000 extra exemptions available per year for H-1B petitions if the worker holds a master degree or higher from a U.S. educational institution
4. An H-1B visa is employer dependent which means you can only work for the sponsoring employer.
